A route for those who enjoy a bit of climbing – just over 700m in the first 15km but with the climbs, come the descents and there’s few better than the descent over Orchard Rig down to the the Glen Estate. This route passes through three Tweed Valley forests but is still very big on spectacular views and as you emerge from Kirkhouse Forest onto open moor above Glengaber you can’t help but feel you’re in a very remote place.

We like… fantastic descent to the Glen over Orchard Rig. Big on spectacular views. Has a really remote feel on the return from Kirkhouse Forest.

Watch out for… The descent to the Glen is off-camber in places and can be slippery when wet. There’s a short (100m) unrideable section as you cross a new section of forest above Glengaber. Remote sections require self-sufficiency and appropriate equipment.
