A fairy challenging climb up Hammy Hill (or know to the locals as heart attack hill!!) marks the start of this ride out of Peebles but thereafter you are rewarded with amazing views over to Glentress and north towards the Pentland Hills. From the 16th to mid 19th century cattle and sheep were driven along this route between the fairs in Falkirk and Crieff to markets south of the border
We like… One fairly challenging climb at the start of this ride and then you’ve got most of the climbing in the bag!
Watch out for… this is a popular multi-user trail so be considerate to other users particularly horse-riders – horses are easily spooked . Did we forget to mention the final climb up the Sware?!!
Kate Hedges –
We loved this route. It’s fun to follow the accurate map and great directions. My 2 children and I managed the route at a gentle pace in 2.5 hours. We loved the views, varied terrain, changeable landscape, and enjoyed the wildlife along the way. We appreciated exploring a new route that we knew was going to be good going for a mountain bike. The only downside is that it being a rural area, there are quite a few gates along the way. The website is easy to use and we enjoyed receiving our route immediately.
