This route follows the forest road around the western edge of Elibank and Traquair Forest and after a short section over open moorland brings you to the remote shepherd’s cottage at Glengaber. The return route along Damhead Rig provides stunning views across to Lee Penn and the surrounding area – Due to recent planting, the track along the ridge has been upgraded for vehicle access so this route is also suitable for gravel bikes.

We like… this route has a really remote feel to it. The forest road and track along the ridge is non-technical and easy to ride. Amazing views on the return descent to Damhead.

Watch out for… the beauty of this route is its remoteness, so be appropriately equipped for all eventualities. The cottage at Glengaber is privately owned and NOT an option for shelter if required. A short section of switchbacks at the start maybe a challenge on a gravel bike – the average gradient is 11% but levels off after a steep start.
